Remy Martin Bottle Pendant Lights

For this project we were inspired by the beautiful, faceted glass, Remy Martin bottle. With a few adjustments we transformed these throw-away bottles into beautiful and functional lighting elements for the Madeira’s new bar.

First we needed access to install the lighting, bulb and electrical elements. I cut the bottoms off of the bottles using a diamond blade wet saw. Then I polished the opening on a lapidary wheel and by hand with successive diamond polishing pads.

To dress it up I replaced the labels with medallions of glass. These were designed to resemble the gold/red shift of the oval shaped Remy label. They are made of layered red and  dichroic glass with gold mica powder layered in between.

The translucent medallion projects its red color and adds to the jewel-like features of the bottle. When the lights are off they appear amber/gold, when the lights on they appear red/gold.

Variations on this design can be done with whatever colors match the decor of the room. In this case the client has a red felted pool table in the room so the red adds an elegant touch.
